Während Flubis umgekehrt, wird, was man so gern entbehrt.
Bei Halsbeschwerden solln diese werden zu Flubis. Einfach weggekehrt!
DREI HASEN Eine groteske Ballade

musst ins Nichts dunkler Nacht zurück reisen.

Nein!
Pfeift der Sturm? Keift ein Wurm?
Heulen Eulen hoch vom Turm?
Nein!

RATATOUILLE
This plat is a true Ratatouille; And who says french cooking is hooey? It still has the edge On Angleterre’s vedge:
Ha, ha! et à bas le chou bouilli!
So sweat your courgettes till they’re dewy (for l’eau is the foe of celui), While golden in huile, As tomatoes you peel, Your chopped onions fry free of ennui!
Red peppers and aubergines bluey You stew in fragrantio sui. And add a last sigh Of estragon and ail, As you lie on the floor with the Pouilly…
Mais qu’est-ce que c’est que ce bruit?
Le reste du repas n’est pas cu-it- But the guests on the mat At the door of your flat Go ratatatatatatouille!

THE PICKET FENCE (Max Knight, transl.)
There used to be a picket fence With space to gaze from hence to thence.
An architect, who got this in his view, approached it nightly for offence.
Removed the spaces from the fence
and built of them a residence. The fence stood around, with pickets unbound, completely unsourrounded hence.
A view so naked and obscene, the Senate had to intervene.
The architect, yes, he flew from this mess, to which place, he doesn’t tell, how mean!
THE AESTHETIC WEASEL
A weasel sitting on a Diesel
amidst a patch of prickling teasel. But how that and why? The mooncalf’s reply: “For rhyme’s sake, perched on an easel”.
DESIRE FOR A MONUMENT
Please set a monument for me, built out of sugar, in the sea.
It will melt and make a sweet-water lake, briefly, but long enough to be…
…taken in by little fishes, serving bigger fish as dishes.
These will lose their life for gourmet-man and wife: Turbot sucré au crèpe flourishes.
In this way I will join the chain of high society again.
On monuments of steel the pigeons, ungenteel, my head bespattering, would cause pain.
THE MOONSHEEP translation by Max Knight
The moonsheep stands upon the clearing. He waits and waits to get his shearing. His flesh is white, his mate, she cried, cause lifetime’s end is truly nearing.
The moonsheep murmurs in his dream:
“I am the cosmos’ gloomy scheme.” His flesh is white, in space it’s quiet, but dreams like that unlikely seem.
The moonsheep plucks himself a stalk,
returning to his place by walk. His flesh is white, as snow, alright, cause he expired in the chalk.
The moonsheep in the morn’ lies dead.
His flesh is white, the sun is red. His mate, she cried, his flesh is fried, the moonsheep died, his blood was shed.
THE TORTOITOISE
„I am a thousand seasons old.
The Gothic ruler Theobold confined me in a cage. I’m getting on in age and getting on and on quite bold.
A lot has happened since that day, so many things one might convey,
but what, I do not know. For money in a show, I am, at present, on display.
All talk of death I can ignore, I am the tor- I am the tor- I am the tor-toi-toise. As so much idle noise,
can I ignore all talk of yore.”
ANTO-LOGY
Of yore, on earth was dominant,
The biggest mammal: the Gig-ant. “Gig”, a vast number, that does encumber to certify its size for grant’.
But off, like smoke, that vastness flew.
Time did abound, and numbers too. The Twe l eph-ant, he did rule suddenly, a tiny thing, but king, its true.
Where is he now? Where is his throne?
In the museum pales his bone. The El eph-ant then, well-known to us men, was given us by nature prone,
but, woe, that shooting anthropoid
called “Man”, in quest for tusks destroyed him ere he could change in natural range, to T en-ants state. Darwin’s annoyed.
O noble club, S. P. C. A., don’t let Man wholly take away
the titanic scale, farther down the trail, and farther down on nature’s way.
How grateful will the Ant survive
if left to flourish and to thrive, til he disappear, some far-off year, as Ze ro-ant, too small for life.
THE TWO DONKEYS
A brooding donkey one day said
to his devoted lawful mate: We both are such an ass, let’s kill ourselves my lass! They’re still alive, don’t be afraid.
GOLCH AND FLUBIS
Golch and Flubis, these are two
sorcerers from Shangri-loo, who were given me by the mighty Zri, Queen of Zra and Limrick, too.
In case I lack a certain thing,
Let’s say a proof, a tree, a ring, I call Golch in: “Speed!”, and get what I need, since he changed to what I cling.
Flewbis, contrary to this, turns to what one wants to miss.
If laryngitis, just now your plight is, it flees your throat, as Flying-bis.
Life is a lark indeed when these
good Golches help and Flubises. Flubis would depart as Death, once a dart had pierced your heart with mortal feeze.
So try to win the grace of Zri,
bring roses, rhum and Russian tea. If a Golch you get, big success, as yet! We love You, Zri, adoring Ye.
What I like very much, too (in the
original translation by Max Knight):
Leave the molecules in peace, Let them rush in all directions! Shun revisions and corrections, Hold in awe your ecstasies.
Limerickisation:
Leave the molecules in peace, let them rush from Greece to piece in all directions, but shun corrections, hold in awe your ecstasies.
THREE RABBITS A grotesque ballad (Max Knight, transl.)
Three rabbits dance in the moonlight clear on a meadow with lagoon right here: The first is a monkey, the second a donkey, the third one looks just like a deer.
Please do not ask, there’s no reply,
Explaining comments we deny. We like versifying. If you find this trying, just raise ‘em to the square, dont shy…
…and extract the logarithm. Then add to it the rhythm
of a silly verse on the universe and see the result through a prism!
You will see the rabbits dancing,
just as on silver toes prancing, in the moonlight clear, monkey, donkey, deer, all retreating and advancing.
THE SNIFFLE
A sniffle crouches on the terrace
to catch a victim he can harass, and jumpeth with vim upon Paul G. Shrim. He’s stuck with him, may god bewar’us.
In the original translation : A sniffle crouches on the terrace to catch a victim he can harass.
And suddenly he jumps with vim
upon a man by name of Schrimm.
Paul Schrimm responding with: „hatschoo,“ is stuck with him the weekend through.
THE HYSTRIX
You find it under pine an vine the Southeast Asian porcupine:
Hystrix grotei Gurt, of Siam, he does hurt. So keep away from quills so fine.
There in the jungles of Siam, he breaks, you might say, Nature’s dam. If you cross his tracks,
he suddenly attacks, so better do evade his slam.
He shoots his quills both young and old – as in hin wrath he gets so bold – faster than you can jump, recklessly in your rump.
You feel it burning hot and cold.
From top to bottom thereupon, as once the Saint Sebastian, you’re pinned against a tree, and doubting waht you see. You’re martyr’d als the suff’ring man.
But Hystrix walks away, he’s through, he’s hiding in the jungle to suffer himself, repent, his soul and body spent. Who takes you from the tree now, who?
THE PANTIES
Panties shine in holy splendor,
when they, free from the agenda, facing wind and sun, their Selves reflect upon. Calm just as in self-surrender.
On the clothes line they look bracing happ’ly rid of the disgracing
underworldly ways, sails upon the stays. Nice to see for all those facing.
But no metaphoric story fully tells their merits, sorry. Following their trace praise their floral grace,
sing, o poet, sing their glory.

THE SEAGULLS
The seagulls by their looks suggest
that Emma is their name; they wear a white and fluffy vest and are the hunter's game. I never shoot a seagull dead; their life I do not take. I like to feed them gingerbread
and bits of raisin cake. O human, you will never fly the way the seagulls do; but if your name is Emma, why, be glad they look like you.
Limerickisation!
THE SEAGULLS
The seagulls wear a fluffy vest and they do by their looks suggest that Emma is their name. They are the hunter's game, but do not try a hunting test.
I never shoot a seagull dead,
I like to feed them gingerbread and bits of raisin cake. Their life I do not take, I like to look at them instead.
O human, you will never fly the way the seagulls do in sky.
If Emma is your name, be glad to look the same as seagulls in beholder’s eye.

The dance A quadruple-pig and an offbeat-mole Once met in the shadow of a pole, Which did in it’s creator’s mind stand.
And to the play of a fiddlestick-prance, The two held, for a dance, Foot and hand.
And upon his three pink coloured legs Bounced the ‘druple-pig grace-fully-felly,
While the offbeat-mole, on her two pegs, Wagged rhythmically her belly. And the shadow fell And the fiddler’s spell Sounded just like melodious jelly.
The creator’s brain had to succumb,
And the pole vanished, as it came, -supple, And the same had to do our couple, Back to where they had come. A last dum-didi-diddle Was heard from the fiddle –
There was no further evidence from.
Limerickisation by PGS
The dancing
For prelude once there met upbeat-mole
With the quadruple-pig at the pole, Where the fiddle-stick, prancing Just stroke up for dancing, To which they held foot, hand, and soul.
On his only three pink coloured legs
Bounced the pig, and the mole on her pegs Wags her rhythmical belly To melodious a jelly From a fiddle, as fragile as eggs.
But the pole at last had to succumb
To the mind, from which did it once come. So, our odd dancing couple Had to vanish, quite supple, There was no further evidence from.

Nay!
Shrieks the gale? Squeaks a snail? Howls an owls hoo-hoot from jail?
Nay!
It is the gallows loose Noose
With it’s heavy end a-rasping. Just as so On the go An exhausted, panting steed For the nearest trough were gasping, (Which might still be far, indeed.)
Limerickisation by PGS
Shrieks the gale, squeaks a snail, howls an owl
From the jail? What we heard, all that howl, Squeak, and shriek: Gallows noose, At its end swinging loose, Sounds as metal sheet, denting, does growl.
Comment on that (by PGS): I’d to change here the tale on the steed,
For a noise as if denting of sheet, As in our times now, We’re more ready to bow B’for our cars, and their metal sheets’ need.
Translation by PGS
sorry for recasting an arch (Bogen) into an
ash tray, it was done “just for the rhyme”, (as The Aesthetic Weasel rightfully claimed)
A smile flies, gone astray
A smile flies, gone astray, Across a noisy hall, Until onto a tray, So opalescent, tall,
Its little life does end, The very last view, vile, Downwardly at her bent, Who had it lost - that smile.
The Smile Limerickisation by PGS
Flies a smile ’cross a hall, gone astray On a piled opalescent ash tray. Its small life is just ending, Last view down at her bending,
Who had lost it – that smile, so to say.
Once again a translation, dear Queen,
of the nicest short story I’ve seen in the Penguin Book, it’s worth more than a look, ‘cause it’s fitting exactly my spleen.
RATATOUILLE
machen ra-tata-ta-tata-touille!
